10 years a League

Recommended Posts

I've met some very nice coaches around here and I probably wouldn't be playing Blood Bowl as much if it wasn't for the OCC.

Kudos to everyone who's kept and is still keeping it alive.

It's the name and the great quality of coaches that brought me to the OCC, quite a few years ago now, and it's the wonderful community that has kept me here and that continues to make this the best place. So when you read this and celebrate the OCC, give yourself a pat on the back as well ;)

I joined on season 16 of OCC1 and haven't missed a season since.  Thanks OCC!

I believe there might be two coaches who have played every single season (either BB2 or BB1 during the time when we had both).

I know I have (snuck in as the last reserve for S1 of BB1) and I believe Bill-BJJ has been with us just as long (and he's been playing Orcs all the time to boot).

Races that have yet to make it to the championship (when there's more than 50 teams in the league, I lost track of the BB1 league when we moved over to BB2):

Halflings (nearly got there, but fell during MD9)

Underworld (I believe I got 1 spot short of getting them up and Borke has been close as well)

Ogres (not even close)

Norse (not even close)

Kislev (less seasons to do it in, but then Bretonnians with just as much time got two titles)

Races who have been in the championship but not won:

Amazons (not even close to winning, 10th as best)

Khemri (Two 3rd places as best)

Goblins (not even close, 9th as best)

Dwarfs (a 2nd place as best)

Humans (3rd place)

As for titles:

Wood Elf:  9 (With Flix having 5 of them, in a row)

Nurgle: 6

Necromantic:  6

High Elf: 5

Orcs:  5

Lizards:  4

Chaos Dwarf:  3

Chaos:  2

Khorne Daemons: 2

Bretonnians: 2

Dark Elf: 1

Skaven: 1

Undead: 1

Elven Union: 1

Vampire: 1

Coaches who have managed to defend their title (in chronological order):

Enarion (Wood Elves)

Flix (4 times) (Wood Elves)

Tigga (Lizardmen)

GUSYA! (Khorne Daemons)

Pidpad (Bretonnians)

AndyDavo (High Elf)

Memory is a funny thing but I believe I was an admin in the very beginning. It was different back then, it was one admin per division which was fun but very work intensive and ultimately replaced by the team system we have now.

Coaching wise, my very first opponent, in S1 MD1, was some guy called @dode. I’d be surprised if there are any other matches from launch week where both participants are still around.

For several years, helping keep this league plodding along was almost like a second job until I finally retired from such things, having seen the league flourish into the great and well-run community we have today.

I’ve been fortunate enough to know many lovely folks through my time here. I didn’t even ban sone of them.

Here’s to the next ten years.

I take this and Nuffle's inability to deal anything permanent on me as an challenge to keep going until I dice myself to the championship or this league just dies away, which doesn't seem likely judging by this thread.

Vampires were a team that had never won it all until this very week. Never say never.

Good luck!  I hope you make it farther than the rest of us who eventually gave up the Kislev dream!

My first season in OCC BB1 was 14 I believe, though I played Snotling Soda Cup at least one season before that. I played necros and got my ass handed to me because I was a noob and eventually I raged out and didn't play for nearly a year (that was the infamous necro team that had three golems die in two seasons all of them to thrown rocks). Then I rejoined and I've played since, necros again, then underworld, then necros again in BB2.

The only season I missed since then was season 11 of OCC BB2 when I needed a break. That was after 2+ pretty intense years of greensuiting and being responsible for bringing the league into BB2 (I was a red before that and I also helped run the Diet Orca Cola Championship, our BB2 test league).

Anyway, I retired for the sake of my mental health but I still play. Some day I may return to adminship but right now the others are doing a swell job so I'm quite content to lean back and watch, not without a certain sense of pride for having laid a lot of the groundwork.

It's evident in the fact that whenever there is a decision to make among the greensuits, my first move is to "check how RK designed it to be", and then move on from there ;)

I like the "if Pidpad and dode agrees it must be the correct approach" method of doing things.

It usually takes a while to get there though.

I think the only thing I haven't written a guide for is seeding.

The procedure for seeding is basically "keep Pidpad alive".

Just saw this! I played OCC for about a season and a half after I got over my anxiety of playing online games. I was undead fan and basically worshipped Dreamy as a god. Then RL got the better of me for a couple of years until BB2 came about. I bought right as the second seeder was getting underway and I have played in every season since.

Nothing less than one of the best run leagues around. Thanks for providing a great community for ten years!
