OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier

Recommended Posts

The Orca Cola Championship is happy to announce that we will be running a Qualifier for the BB2 World Cup 2018. Please read the rules below carefully, there are a lot of details to take in. Afterwards, we hope that you all head over to the sign-up thread, and enjoy the competition!

Participants

Any coach who is currently playing in the OCC, or has played in the OCC in the past (BB1 or BB2), is eligible to participate in the OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier. Coaches who are banned from the OCC are not eligible.

The BB2 World Cup 2018 requires participants to be 18 years old or older. Additionally, participants who are considered minors in their country of residence also require authorization from their parents (e.g. 18 or older, but under 21 in the USA). Therefore, in order to to participate in the OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier, you need to confirm that you fulfill the age requirements for your country.

Team composition

The OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier will be using the resurrection format, to eliminate extremely lucky breaks due to level-ups, as well as extremely unlucky breaks due to teams being completely wiped out. If you are not familiar with the resurrection format, you basically get the very same team for each match, there are no permanent injuries or even MNGs, but you also don't earn SPP. Instead, you can build a team with slightly more TV than usual, and assign skills manually, according to the following rules:

- Mixed teams are not allowed.

- Stadium enhancements are not allowed.

- You can build your team up to 1200 TV.
- Tier 1 teams can assign up to 6 normal skills (on top of the 1200 TV).
- Tier 2 teams can assign up to 5 normal skills, and one double skill (on top of the 1200 TV).
- Tier 3 teams can assign up to 6 normal skills, and one double skill (on top of the 1200 TV).
- Only one skill maximum can be assigned to any single player.

The team tiers are:

Tier 1: Amazon, Bretonnian, Chaos Dwarf, Dark Elf, Dwarf, Lizardmen, Norse, Orc, Skaven, Undead, Wood Elf
Tier 2: Chaos, Elf, High Elf, Human, Khemri, Kislev, Necromantic, Nurgle, Underworld, Vampire
Tier 3: Halfling, Goblin, Ogre

Inducements

Even though teams can end up with different total TV, inducements at match start are not allowed, with the following exception: Halfling and Goblin teams may induce Star Players, Halfling Chef and Bribes at match start.

Since we have to allow inducements due to the above exception, we rely on coaches to adhere to the rule of not using inducements (unless covered by the exception). If your opponent uses inducements at the match start that are not covered by the exception, you may request the match to be reset and it must be replayed. If your opponent uses inducements again, you may request an automatic 2-1 admin win. If your opponent fails to reschedule the match, you may also request an automatic 2-1 admin win (but both coaches must make a serious effort to reschedule the match).

Tournament format

The tournament will be played over a group phase and a knockout phase. For the group phase, coaches will be assigned to groups of 6, based on a "Football World Cup style" pool system based on their highest ever placement in the OCC (this is to ensure that groups are roughly of equal "strength"). The groups will be played in a single round robin (so 5 matches for everyone).

From the groups, the two top placed coaches will advance to the knockout stage, as well as the best 3rd placed coaches (depending on the total number of signups we get). Group placement will be based on the usual OCC tiebreakers.

In the knockout phase, coaches will be put into a tree structure up to the semi-finals and final. We will post the tree in advance before the group phase is started, so you can see where you will end up based on your group finish.

Signup

The signup for the OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier is open right now, and will close Friday, March 30, 2018. Late signups might be considered, but are not guaranteed a spot.

Start / Schedule

Play will start on April 4, 2018. During the group phase, you will have one week per round to play your match. Scheduling will follow the regular OCC rules (Part III B), a separate sub-forum will be created for this purpose. During the playoff phase, we will try to stick to the one round per week schedule, though there will possibly be a slight delay before the knockout phase starts to put together all the matchups.

The complete OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier will last approximately 10 weeks, depending slightly on the number of signups.

Code Of Conduct

The same OCC Code Of Conduct applies to all matches played during the OCC BB2 World Cup 2018 Qualifier.

World Cup Tickets

We don't know yet how many tickets the OCC will be allowed to award. It will be based on the size of the league and/or the size of the qualifier tournament, we assume.

Therefore, at this point we can promise that the tournament winner will be award a ticket to the BB2 World Cup 2018. If we get more tickets, then the final runner-up, and possible also one or both of the semi-final runners-up will be awarded tickets (we might have to also play a 3rd place match between the semi-final runners-up).
